Michels Expands Temperature-Controlled High-Bay Warehouse in Meudt
Since the beginning of 2026, Karl Michels GmbH & Co. KG has been expanding its temperature-controlled warehouse 2 at the Meudt site in the Westerwald. A look at the background: how warehouse 2 came to be, what it delivers, and why this investment is typically Michels.
A warehouse with a history
The starting point for the construction of the warehouse was the wish of a partner company to outsource its entire dispatch logistics. This one request laid the foundation for what is today the centrepiece of Michels' warehouse infrastructure: a professionally operated, temperature-controlled high-bay warehouse that goes far beyond a simple storage area.
From this origin, a grown warehouse infrastructure has developed over the decades – with several thousand square metres of hall space as well as generous outdoor areas. A development that is typical of Michels: not planned at the drawing board, but grown from real requirements and genuine partnerships.
The 2026 expansion: what is being built
Since January 2026, construction work on warehouse 2 has been underway. The goal: around 20% more storage volume compared to the previous capacity of just under 1,400 pallets.
- Warehouse type: temperature-controlled high-bay warehouse
- Previous capacity: just under 1,400 pallets
- Expansion: around +20% storage volume
The expansion is one of the largest investment projects at the site this year – a consistent step towards developing the existing infrastructure to meet the requirements of the coming years.
Warehouse and transport: directly interlinked
Not every type of goods can be stored under standard conditions. Warehouse 2 is designed as a temperature-controlled high-bay warehouse – this means: constant temperature conditions, high-bay structure for efficient use of space, and direct integration into Michels' ongoing transport operations. Goods are picked in the warehouse and made ready for collection.
Conclusion: growth that comes from practice
The expansion of warehouse 2 fits into a pattern that has run through Michels' company history since its founding in 1937: investments do not arise from abstract growth targets, but from what practice demands.
